Have you ever found yourself in a season of waiting? Perhaps you’ve been praying earnestly for something—a breakthrough, a healing, a restored relationship, or the fulfillment of a dream. Yet, the answer hasn’t come, and doubt begins to whisper, “It should have happened by now. Maybe it’s not meant to be. Maybe God has forgotten you.”
If you’re in this place, I want to encourage you with a powerful truth: God is never late, and He is always working behind the scenes, even when we can’t see it. The waiting season isn’t a season of abandonment; it’s a season of preparation. Psalm 5:3 reminds us, “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning, I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” Waiting, according to Scripture, is not about idleness; it’s about eagerly anticipating what God is about to do. God honors those who wait with faith.
When things aren’t happening as quickly as we’d like, it’s easy to become weary. The enemy would love for you to give up, to settle for less than God’s best, or to stop praying altogether. But do not be discouraged! God often uses waiting as a tool to refine our faith and build our endurance. Before the promise is fulfilled, there’s often a test of trust—a season where God strengthens your resolve and prepares you to receive all He has for you.
Faithful Waiting is Active, Not Passive
Waiting on God is not about sitting back, giving in to discouragement, or passively hoping that things will change. Biblical waiting is active and filled with expectation. It is standing firm in faith, knowing that the God who made the promise is faithful to fulfill it. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.”
Think of a farmer. When he plants seeds, he doesn’t wake up the next morning expecting a full harvest. He understands there is a process involved. There’s watering, growth happening beneath the soil—things he can’t see. But in time, the harvest will come. Similarly, your prayers are like seeds being planted. You may not see immediate results, but God is at work beneath the surface. Every prayer, every step of obedience, and every moment you choose faith over fear is watering that seed. The harvest is coming!
Hold on to God’s Promises
One of the most comforting truths in the waiting season is that God is not slow in keeping His promises. 2 Peter 3:9 assures us that “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” The delays you may be experiencing are not because God has forgotten you. Instead, they could be part of His divine setup to prepare you for something greater.
Consider the lives of Joseph, Abraham, and David. Joseph had dreams of leadership, yet he spent years in prison before stepping into his destiny. Abraham waited 25 years for the promised son, Isaac. David, anointed as king, had to endure years of hardship and trials before taking the throne. What did all these men have in common? They didn’t quit in the waiting season. Despite delays, disappointments, and discouragements, they held on to God’s promises. They didn’t let circumstances shake their faith.
You may be in a season of delay, but don’t mistake delay for denial. If God has put the promise in your heart, He will bring it to pass. Isaiah 55:11 declares, “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Speak Expectantly, Not Defeatedly
What you speak in the waiting season matters. Words of faith will strengthen you, while words of defeat will drag you down. Instead of saying, “I’ll never get well. I’ll never meet the right person. I’ll never see my dreams come to pass,” shift your words to align with the truth of God’s Word. Declare with confidence:
- “God is working behind the scenes.”
- “My breakthrough is on the way.”
- “God’s timing is perfect, and I trust Him completely.”
- “He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it” (Philippians 1:6).
The enemy wants you to lose hope, but God wants you to stand strong. Faith-filled waiting means looking ahead with confidence, expecting that God’s goodness will show up in your life. Psalm 27:13-14 says, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Develop Holy Determination
In the waiting season, you must develop holy determination—the kind of persistence that refuses to quit. Think about the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25-34. Despite the crowd, despite her condition, she was determined to touch Jesus’ robe. Her faith and persistence moved Jesus to act. Blind Bartimaeus, in Mark 10:46-52, also displayed this holy determination. Despite being told to be quiet, he cried out even louder for Jesus to heal him.
God honors persistent faith. When delays come, dig your heels in and declare, “I will not give up. I will not let circumstances, bad breaks, or discouragement talk me out of what God has for me.” This is the kind of faith that pleases God and positions you to see the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You are working even when I cannot see it. I choose to wait expectantly, knowing that every promise You’ve made will come to pass. Strengthen me in my waiting season. Help me to trust Your timing, to speak words of faith, and to hold on with holy determination. I refuse to give up. I look forward with expectation, believing that my breakthrough is on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
