Treasure doesn’t usually look like treasure when it’s still in seed form.
It can look like a simple idea that keeps returning when you try to ignore it. It can look like a burden for people that will not let you stay comfortable. It can look like a skill you downplay because someone else seems more gifted. Yet the Father is not careless with what He places in your hands. He has entrusted each of us with a unique combination of gifts, talents, and opportunities, not to be hidden, hoarded, or left untouched, but to be cultivated and used for His glory. Your voice, your story, your skills, they all carry divine potential. And when you step out in faith, God multiplies what you offer.
When fear, doubt, or comparison paralyze you, they can keep you from the blessing tied to obedience and cause you to overlook what God has already placed in your hands. But God is not standing over you in shame. He is loving, patient, and intentional. He will not leave you stuck. He keeps calling you forward: “Use what I gave you. Trust Me with the outcome.”
The Power in the Parable
In Matthew 25:14–30, Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents. A master entrusts resources to three servants, each “according to his ability.” Two servants immediately put what they received to work, and they see increase. The third buries his talent.
Why? He says, “I was afraid.” Fear convinced him that hiding was safer than obeying. Yet the master’s response is unmistakable: he praises the servants who participated, and he confronts the servant who chose passivity. God does not demand perfection, but He does expect participation.
Fear Is a Thief
Fear rarely announces itself as fear. It often shows up as delay. Not yet. I need more time. I need more confidence. Or it disguises itself as humility: Who am I to do that?
Fear steals in quiet ways. It steals obedience one small “later” at a time. It steals joy by making you believe you are behind. It steals impact by keeping your gift underground where it cannot help anyone.
2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Fear does not come from the Father. He gives power for what He calls you to do, love that anchors you when you feel exposed, and a steady mind that does not crumble under pressure. So, if fear is loud right now, do not assume it is a sign to stop. Sometimes fear is proof that you are standing at the edge of obedience.
Faith Is a Multiplier
The faithful servants did not wait for perfect conditions. They acted. Their faith was not an emotion, it was movement.
James 2:17 says, So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Faith grows when it takes steps. God often moves when you do. That book idea, start outlining it. That ministry tug, begin with one conversation. That gift of encouragement, send the text, make the call, pray with someone today. You do not need the whole map, you need the next step.
Start Small, Stay Steady
Kingdom fruitfulness often begins in ordinary places. David was faithful with sheep before he carried a crown. Ruth gleaned faithfully before her story turned a corner. God loves to grow big things from small obedience.
Luke 16:10 teaches, One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much. Your “little” matters. The hidden places matter. The private obedience matters. Do not despise small beginnings. Consistency is not glamorous, but it is powerful. Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep serving. Keep creating. God sees what you do with what looks like “not much,” and He knows how to entrust you with more.
Don’t Compare, Run Your Race
Comparison buries gifts. It makes you look sideways when you were called to look forward. It whispers, They’re better. They’re farther. Why even try?
But the Holy Spirit does not hand out gifts randomly. 1 Corinthians 12:4–6 says, Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. Your calling does not have to look like anyone else’s to be faithful. When you stop measuring your gifts against others, you will start maximizing what God gave you.
What You Don’t Use, You Can Lose
The servant did not just miss a reward, he lost what he tried to protect. Gifts left dormant can atrophy. Courage unused can shrink. Opportunities ignored can close. God is patient, but He is purposeful.
Esther 4:14 carries that holy tension: If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place… And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? God will accomplish His will, but you may be the person He positioned to participate in it. Your gifts are not just for you, they are for the people God intends to bless through you.
God Will Multiply Your Yes
The miracle is not in what you have, it is in what happens when you offer it to God. A boy offered a small lunch to Jesus, and it became provision for thousands. A widow poured out her last bit of oil, and it multiplied until there were no more jars to fill. God blesses what we bring.
So, start with what you have, not with what you wish you had. Name what is in your hand. Confront what fear has been saying. Then take one obedient step, today. One paragraph, one application, one conversation, one act of service, one prayer. God is not asking you to impress Him. He is asking you to trust Him. And as you move, He strengthens what you thought was weak, and He multiplies what you offer.
A Final Encouragement
You are not overlooked. You are not behind. If God put something in you, it is because He intends to bring something through you. Take the talent out of the ground. Put the gift back into motion. Do it with prayer, do it with humility, do it with courage, and do it knowing that heaven celebrates obedience.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the unique gifts, dreams, and opportunities You have placed in my life. Forgive me for the times I have let fear, doubt, or comparison keep me from stepping out. Train my heart to trust You, and steady my mind when anxiety tries to lead. Today I choose faith over fear. I offer You what is in my hand, my abilities, my time, my story, my resources, and my willingness, and I ask You to multiply it for Your glory.
Show me my next right step, and give me the courage to take it. Help me be faithful in the small places, consistent in the unseen places, and joyful in the process. Protect me from comparison, and teach me to run my race with peace. Let my life bless people, point them to Jesus, and reflect Your goodness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
