I’m excited to announce the release of my newest book, A Map Through the Night: Where the Wound Meets Grace. This is a Scripture-anchored companion for anyone walking through grief, trauma, betrayal, burnout, anxiety, and the long “in-between” seasons when life hurts, and answers feel far away.

I’ll say it simply: this is my favorite book so far. It’s a survival guide for some of the hardest seasons we walk through on this side of eternity.

I wrote this with the steady voice of a pastor and chaplain who has sat with people in hospital rooms, living rooms, and prison chapels on their hardest days. A Map Through the Night doesn’t hand you clichés. It gives you language for what hurts, light for what feels confusing, and practical steps for what comes next. These pages won’t rush your grief, excuse what harmed you, or shame you for struggling. They help you name the night, honor the wound, and find God meeting you right where you are, with a steady way forward.

Across 20 practical chapters, you’ll walk through topics like loss and death, crushing pressures and burnout, toxic relationships and betrayal, anxiety and shame cycles, trauma and triggers, forgiveness and justice, and the hard middle of waiting when you believe God is good, yet life still hurts. You’ll also learn how to grieve without losing your faith, separate conviction from condemnation, set boundaries with clarity and compassion, stop replaying the moment that broke you, calm your nervous system with simple faith-centered practices, rebuild trust wisely, and move from surviving to healing one honest step at a time.

Each chapter includes relatable storytelling, biblical insight you can stand on, a simple next step you can take today (even if your strength feels small), and prayerful prompts that guide you back to peace, one breath at a time.

This book is for you if you love God yet feel lost in the dark, you’re tired of carrying everyone else while quietly falling apart, you need permission to set boundaries without drowning in guilt, your past keeps showing up in your present, or you want healing that is real, not performative—healing that can work alongside counseling, recovery work, and a healthy community.

Anchored in promises like “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18) and “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1), A Map Through the Night is a reminder that healing is possible, peace can return, and your story is not over. The night has a name, and it does not get the final word.

I’m Chaplain Jeff Davis

With God, all things are possible. I write to offer hope and encouragement to anyone walking through the in-between seasons of life. My prayer is that as you read these words—and see your own story reflected in them—you’ll be strengthened, reminded you’re not alone, and drawn closer to the One who makes all things new.
