Scriptures: Isaiah 9:1-7, Galatians 3:23-4:7, Matthew 1:18-25
As we journey through Advent, we reflect on the promise of a Savior that God made to His people. Isaiah 9:1-7 paints a picture of hope in the midst of darkness, prophesying the coming of a child who would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. This child would bring light to those walking in deep darkness, restoring peace and justice. The promise to Israel is not just about a future king but about God’s reign, His justice, and His peace that would be established forever.
In Galatians 3:23-4:7, Paul reminds us that this promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Before Christ, the law acted as a guardian, showing us our need for redemption. But in the fullness of time, God sent His Son to redeem us and to adopt us as His children. Through Christ, we are no longer slaves to the law but heirs of God’s promise, enjoying the full rights of sons and daughters.
Matthew 1:18-25 shows the humble beginning of Jesus. In the quiet obedience of Joseph, we see how God’s plans unfold in unexpected ways. The angel’s message to Joseph brings the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy, naming Jesus as Immanuel—God with us.
Reflect: This Advent, let us marvel at the faithfulness of God to fulfill His promises. May we live in the light of His presence and the peace of His kingdom.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the promise of a Savior, and for the gift of Your Son, Jesus. Help us to live with anticipation of His coming, embracing the peace, joy, and hope He brings. Amen.
