Scriptures: Genesis 3:8-15, Revelation 12:1-10, John 3:16-21
During Advent, we reflect on God’s profound gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. This is a time of waiting, anticipation, and hope, and these three passages, though distinct, each offer a glimpse of God’s great promise of redemption.
In Genesis 3:8-15, we encounter humanity’s fall into sin. Adam and Eve, hiding from God, feel the weight of their brokenness. Yet, in the midst of judgment, God’s mercy shines through. He speaks the first promise of redemption — that the offspring of the woman will crush the serpent’s head (v. 15). This points to the coming Savior, Jesus Christ, who would defeat sin and death.
Revelation 12:1-10 echoes this cosmic battle. The woman, symbolizing God’s people, is in labor, awaiting the birth of the Messiah, while the dragon (Satan) waits to devour the child. But the child, Jesus, is caught up to God, and the dragon is cast down. This reminds us of the victory of Christ over the forces of darkness and the ongoing battle in the spiritual realm.
In John 3:16-21, we encounter the heart of the gospel — God’s love so vast that He sent His only Son to save the world. Through Christ’s light, we are called to live in truth, choosing to walk in the light rather than remain in darkness.
Reflect: This Advent, as we wait for Christ’s return, may we remember God’s promise of redemption and live in the light of His love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the promise of salvation that began in Genesis and was fulfilled through the life, death, and resurrection of Your Son. As we await His return, may our hearts be filled with hope and anticipation. Help us to walk in the light of Your love and reflect Your truth to a world in darkness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
