Scriptures: Zechariah 4:1-14, Revelation 4:9-5:5, Matthew 25:1-13
As we continue this season of Advent, we reflect on the coming of Christ and the anticipation of His return. The Scripture passages this week draw us into a deeper understanding of God’s power, holiness, and the hope we have in Christ.
In Zechariah 4:1-14, we are reminded that the work of God’s kingdom is not accomplished by human might or power, but by His Spirit. The vision of the golden lampstand symbolizes God’s light in the world and His continual presence, illuminating our path in times of difficulty. This is a comforting assurance as we wait for Christ’s coming.
Revelation 4:9-5:5 shifts our focus to the throne room of God, where worship is offered continually. Here, we encounter the Lamb, who alone is worthy to open the scroll and reveal God’s final plan. This is a reminder that the birth of Christ, celebrated in Advent, leads to the victory of the Lamb—Jesus—who conquers sin and death.
In Matthew 25:1-13, the parable of the ten virgins teaches us to be prepared for Christ’s return. The wise virgins who kept their lamps filled with oil are a symbol of those who actively anticipate Jesus’ return, filled with the Spirit and ready for His coming.
Reflect: As we wait in hope, let us prepare our hearts and lives, living in the light of His presence.
Prayer: Father, we thank You for the light of Your presence in our lives. Help us to be faithful and prepared as we await Christ’s return. Fill us with Your Spirit and guide us to live in anticipation of Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
