Scriptures: Amos 9:1-10, Revelations 2:8-17, Matthew 23:13-26
In Amos 9:1-10, we encounter a God of justice who does not overlook sin. The prophet describes God’s righteous judgment on a nation that has turned away from Him, a reminder that God’s holiness demands accountability. Yet, even in the midst of judgment, there is a glimmer of hope—God promises not to utterly destroy His people but to refine them like silver, preserving a remnant for His purposes.
In Revelation 2:8-17, Jesus speaks to the churches, commending their faithfulness but warning against compromise. The church in Smyrna is encouraged to endure suffering, while the church in Pergamum is rebuked for tolerating idolatry and immorality. These words echo the call of Amos: God desires a people wholly devoted to Him, standing firm in faith amidst trials and rejecting anything that pulls their hearts away from Him.
Matthew 23:13-26 reveals Jesus’ sorrow over hypocrisy. The religious leaders focused on outward appearances while neglecting the weightier matters of justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Jesus calls for an inward transformation that prioritizes a pure heart over a polished exterior.
Reflect: During Advent, we are reminded that Jesus came not only to bring peace but also to purify and prepare His people. As we await His return, let us examine our hearts, surrender our idols, and live in obedience to His Word.
Prayer: Lord of justice and mercy, purify our hearts this Advent season. Help us to walk in Your truth, reject compromise, and live as Your faithful people. Prepare us to meet You with joy and humility. Amen.
