Scriptures: Amos 8:1-14, Revelations 1:17-2:7, Matthew 23:1-12

In Amos 8:1-14, God shows Amos a basket of ripe fruit symbolizing Israel’s nearing judgment due to their corruption and injustice. The people ignored God’s commands, exploiting the vulnerable and prioritizing personal gain over righteousness. Similarly, in Matthew 23:1-12, Jesus condemns the Pharisees for their hypocrisy, seeking recognition rather than serving God and others. They burdened people with legalism while neglecting the weightier matters of mercy and faithfulness.

Revelation 1:17-2:7 offers hope amidst warnings. John is overwhelmed by the vision of the glorified Christ, who declares, “Do not be afraid.” The letter to the church in Ephesus commends their perseverance but warns against losing their first love. This reminder challenges us to examine our hearts during Advent. Are we focused on Christ or distracted by worldly pursuits?

Advent invites us to realign our hearts with God’s. Like the ripe fruit in Amos, our lives are meant to reflect the fullness of God’s love and justice. As Jesus teaches, humility and servanthood are markers of true greatness in His kingdom. Revelation reminds us that returning to our first love—Jesus—leads to life.

Reflect: This season, let us seek God’s heart, reject hypocrisy, and embrace a life of love, mercy, and faithful obedience. Christ, the light of the world, calls us to walk in His truth and share His hope with others.

Prayer: Lord, search my heart and align it with Yours. Forgive my distractions and help me to love You wholeheartedly. May Your justice, mercy, and truth guide my life. Renew my first love for You and fill me with hope as I await Your coming. Amen.
