Scriptures: Amos 7:1-9, Revelations 1:1-8, Matthew 22:23-33
Amos 7:1-9 reveals the prophet Amos’ vision of God’s judgment. In these visions, Amos intercedes for Israel, pleading for mercy. God relents, showing His patience and compassion. Yet, the final vision of the plumb line underscores God’s unwavering standard of righteousness. Advent reminds us that while God is merciful, His justice is unchanging. Jesus came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it, offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice so that we might be reconciled to God.
Revelation 1:1-8 proclaims the majesty and eternal sovereignty of Christ, “the Alpha and the Omega.” As we prepare for Christ’s coming, we are reminded that He is not just the baby in the manger but the triumphant King who will return to establish His kingdom fully. Advent calls us to stand in awe of His glory and live in readiness for His return.
In Matthew 22:23-33, Jesus confronts the Sadducees about the resurrection, affirming the truth of eternal life. Advent invites us to reflect on this hope: because Christ came, died, and rose again, we are no longer bound by death but are heirs of eternal life.
Reflect: As we journey through Advent, let us stand in awe of God’s sovereignty, trust in His mercy, and rejoice in the hope of His coming kingdom.
Prayer: Lord God, You are merciful and just, Alpha and Omega. As we prepare our hearts for Advent, help us to trust in Your sovereign plan and cling to the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. May we live in faith, anticipating Your return with joy. Amen.
