Scriptures: Amos 6:1-14, 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12, Luke 1:57-67
Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation. Yet, in Amos 6, we are warned against complacency: “Woe to those who are at ease in Zion.” The people of Israel had grown comfortable, neglecting justice and trusting in their wealth. This calls us to examine our hearts—are we relying on our own strength, or are we preparing room for Christ?
In 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12, Paul speaks of God’s righteous judgment and the promise of eternal glory for those who endure. This passage reminds us that Advent is not just about looking back to Christ’s first coming, but forward to His second. As we face trials, we are encouraged to persevere, knowing that God is shaping us for His kingdom.
Finally, in Luke 1:57-67, we witness the birth of John the Baptist and Zechariah’s restored voice. His first words are praise, acknowledging God’s faithfulness. Zechariah’s song is a powerful reminder of God’s promises fulfilled through Christ. Advent invites us to lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving, trusting that God is at work even in waiting.
Reflect: As we journey through Advent, let us reflect on these truths: to resist complacency, persevere in hope, and respond with praise.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank You for the gift of Your promises. Forgive us for growing comfortable and neglecting Your call. Help us to persevere in faith and proclaim Your praise as we await Christ’s return. Prepare our hearts to welcome Him fully. Amen.
