Life-Giving Words of Hope & Encouragement

Scriptures: Amos 5:18-27, Jude 1:17-25, Matthew 22:15-22

As we close week one of Advent, these passages invite us to examine our hearts and priorities. Amos 5 warns against superficial worship. The prophet confronts those who long for the Day of the Lord but live unjustly, highlighting God’s desire for “justice to roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream” (Amos 5:24). God isn’t impressed by rituals devoid of genuine faith and love for others.

Jude 1:17-25 calls us to perseverance in a world full of division and falsehood. Jude encourages believers to build themselves up in faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, and keep themselves in God’s love. This active faith combats cynicism and keeps us focused on God’s eternal promises.

In Matthew 22, Jesus reminds us to live with dual responsibilities: to “give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (Matthew 22:21). This calls us to honor earthly authorities while keeping our ultimate allegiance to God. Our lives and worship should reflect the image of the One who made us.

Reflect: Advent reminds us of Christ’s coming and challenges us to align our lives with His truth. As we await His return, may our worship, relationships, and daily lives reflect His justice, love, and holiness.

Prayer: Lord, purify our hearts and align our lives with Your will. May we seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Keep us faithful as we await Your glorious return. Amen.
