Scriptures: Amos 5:1-17, Jude 1:1-16, Matthew 22:1-14
Amos 5:1-17, Jude 1:1-16, and Matthew 22:1-14 reveal the weight of God’s call to holiness and the joy of responding to His invitation. These passages urge us to examine our hearts during Advent as we prepare for Christ’s coming.
In Amos, God pleads with Israel to “seek the Lord and live” (Amos 5:6). Their empty rituals and injustice grieved Him. True worship is not found in offerings alone but in lives that reflect God’s righteousness and justice (Amos 5:24).
Similarly, Jude warns of false teachers and the danger of ungodly living. Jude 1:4 describes those who turn grace into license for immorality, rejecting the Lordship of Christ. Advent invites us to renounce sin and live under God’s rule, trusting His power to keep us from stumbling (Jude 1:24).
In Matthew 22, the parable of the wedding banquet illustrates the joy of God’s kingdom. Many reject the invitation, preoccupied with worldly concerns, but the King welcomes all who respond in faith. However, entering requires the proper attire—symbolizing righteousness in Christ (Matthew 22:11-12).
Reflect: Advent is a time to seek God wholeheartedly, clothe ourselves in Christ’s righteousness, and live in anticipation of His return. He calls us not to complacency but to transformation.
Prayer: Lord, we come to You in this Advent season, seeking to prepare our hearts. Help us to turn from sin, walk in righteousness, and embrace Your invitation to eternal life. May our lives reflect Your justice, mercy, and love. Amen.
