Life-Giving Words of Hope & Encouragement

Scriptures: Amos 3:12-4:5; 2 Peter 3:1-10; Matthew 21:23-32

As we journey through Advent, today’s scriptures urge us to reflect on God’s justice, patience, and the call to repentance. Amos 3:12–4:5 warns of impending judgment on those who disregard God’s commands, revealing the heartbreak of a Father who desires relationship but sees His people persist in sin. The prophetic imagery reminds us that God’s justice is not arbitrary but flows from His holiness and love for His creation.

In 2 Peter 3:1–10, we encounter a striking contrast—God’s patience. Though scoffers doubt His promises, Peter assures us that God’s delay in judgment is an act of mercy. He does not desire anyone to perish but longs for all to come to repentance. This season of waiting mirrors Advent, a time of anticipation and preparation for Christ’s return.

Matthew 21:23–32 challenges us with a parable about obedience and repentance. Jesus reminds the religious leaders that true repentance is not reflected in empty words but in heartfelt actions. Like the first son in the parable, we are called to acknowledge our shortcomings and turn back to God.

Reflect: Advent invites us to examine our hearts. Are we truly ready for Christ’s coming? Are we aligning our lives with His will? As we light the candles of Advent, may they also ignite a renewed commitment to live faithfully.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your patience and mercy. Help us to turn from sin, walk in obedience, and prepare our hearts for Your coming. May we reflect Your light and love this Advent season. Amen.
