Scriptures: Amos 2:6-16, 2 Peter 1:1-11, Matthew 21:1-11
Advent is a time of preparation, a season to reflect on God’s promises and ready our hearts for Christ’s arrival. The readings for today weave together themes of justice, faithful living, and recognizing the coming King.
Amos 2:6-16 warns of Israel’s failure to honor God’s covenant, exposing their exploitation, idolatry, and injustice. The prophet’s words remind us that God calls His people to live in righteousness and faithfulness, preparing us to recognize His presence among us. As we examine our lives during Advent, are we walking in obedience or turning a blind eye to injustice?
In 2 Peter 1:1-11, we’re encouraged to grow in virtue, knowledge, and godliness, keeping our faith alive and fruitful. Peter challenges us to pursue holiness with diligence, a necessary preparation for encountering Christ. Advent invites us to cultivate these qualities, reflecting the character of the One we await.
Finally, Matthew 21:1-11 recounts Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The crowd shouts, “Hosanna!” recognizing Him as King, yet many misunderstood His mission. Advent reminds us to prepare not just for Jesus’ birth but for His kingship in our hearts.
Reflect: Let’s embrace this Advent season with humility, faithfulness, and joy. As we await the celebration of Christ’s birth and His eventual return, may our lives reflect His justice and love, and may we be found ready to welcome Him as our King.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us prepare our hearts this Advent. May we live in righteousness, grow in faith, and joyfully welcome You as King. Amen.
