Have you ever noticed that some of God’s greatest works begin in the dark? At creation, before light ever touched the earth, Scripture says, “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep” (Genesis 1:2). Out of that darkness, God spoke, “Let there be light,” and life as we know it began. That’s a reminder for you today: darkness is not the end, it is often the beginning.
Maybe right now you feel surrounded by that kind of darkness. Setbacks, disappointments, or mistakes may weigh heavy on your heart. You feel like your story has ended, like your best days are behind you. But hear this: God has not forgotten His promises. When it looks finished, He is just getting started.
The Story of Jesus: From Darkness to Resurrection
Think about Jesus. On Friday, He was crucified. The sky turned black at noon. The earth shook. Hope seemed lost. The disciples scattered, hearts broken, and the Son of God lay lifeless in a borrowed tomb. Friday is what it feels like when the world collapses beneath your feet—the diagnosis, the betrayal, the heartbreak.
Then came Saturday—a day of silence, of waiting, of uncertainty. Heaven seemed quiet. The disciples hid in fear, replaying the events and wondering if everything they had believed was in vain. We know that feeling too well. Saturdays in life are those long nights of unanswered prayers and waiting without clarity.
But praise God, Sunday came. The stone was rolled away. The grave was empty. Jesus rose victorious, defeating death and hell once and for all. What seemed final on Friday was only temporary. Sunday changed everything.
The Friday Before Your Sunday
And just as it was for Jesus, it is for us. Sometimes life feels like Friday—the day of crushing loss. Other times it feels like Saturday—the silence of waiting when nothing makes sense. But no matter how long the night, Sunday is always coming.
Joseph endured his Friday when he was betrayed by his brothers and thrown into a pit. Job endured his Friday when he lost everything he loved. The Israelites endured centuries of Friday under the weight of slavery. But in every case, God didn’t leave them in the dark. He turned betrayal into promotion, loss into restoration, and slavery into freedom.
Your Friday is not final. Your Saturday is not forever. Resurrection is on the way.
It’s Darkest Just Before the Dawn
Have you noticed how the night feels its darkest just before the sunrise? That last stretch before dawn is the heaviest, the quietest, and sometimes the most overwhelming. But then, in a moment, light breaks through, and darkness has no choice but to flee.
That’s how it feels before breakthrough. The enemy often fights hardest right before God moves. The weight feels crushing just before the miracle. But dawn is coming. God has not abandoned you—He’s preparing to shine His light in a brand-new way.
Nighttime Wonders
On my early morning walks, I’ve learned to treasure the beauty of God’s creation in the night. The stars overhead remind me of His vastness. The stillness quiets my soul. Even the ground tells a story. Sometimes my headlamp catches hundreds of tiny emerald-like reflections scattered across the ground. At first, they look like tiny emerald jewels, but closer inspection reveals the eyes of spiders watching in the dark.
What looks frightening at first becomes another reminder of God’s creativity. Just as moths are the “butterflies of the night,” so too God reserves certain beauty for the darkness. Some wonders only appear when the sun goes down. Stars don’t shine in daylight. Certain flowers bloom only at night. God is showing us that even when life feels dark, He has hidden treasures for us to discover.
Maybe that’s why He often does His deepest work in us during dark seasons.
Declare Your Sunday
Isaiah 61:7 declares: “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
That’s not just a verse—it’s a promise. Your story is not going to end in shame, defeat, or despair. God is writing a new chapter of restoration and joy.
So, when discouragement whispers, answer with faith:
- “It’s not over.”
- “God has the final say.”
- “Sunday is coming.”
Say it over your health, your children, your finances, your marriage, your ministry, and your future. The same resurrection power that raised Jesus is alive in you.
A Night Before the Dawn
When you see darkness, don’t panic—look for the light. When you feel surrounded by silence, lean in and listen for God’s whisper. And when you think you’re forgotten, remember: God does His best work in hidden places.
The seed has to die in the soil before it sprouts into life. The womb is dark before new life emerges. The tomb was sealed before resurrection burst forth. Darkness is not defeat—it is preparation for glory.
So, embrace the truth: Your Sunday is coming.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that darkness is never the end of my story. Thank You that just as Jesus rose on Sunday, resurrection is coming to my life. When I face Fridays of pain and Saturdays of silence, remind me that Sunday is on the way. Open my eyes to see the beauty You’ve hidden in the night—the moths that flutter like butterflies of the dark, the emerald reflections of creation, the stars that shine only against the black sky. Teach me to trust that You are working even when I cannot see it. I declare by faith: it’s not over. My dawn is breaking, my Sunday is coming, and Your resurrection power is alive in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
