“Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.”
Psalm 92:13, NKJV
We have settled our legal dispute through mediation, and my heart is overflowing with gratitude. This has been one of the hardest battles my family has faced, but through it all, I’ve felt the power of prayer, the encouragement of friends, and the strength of a community of faith holding us up. Thank you for every prayer whispered, every message sent, and every word of support. I truly believe your faith, joined with mine, helped carry us to this breakthrough moment.
As I was sitting and contemplating this journey, I found myself thinking about the redwood trees of California. These giants can soar to 350 feet tall and live for thousands of years. They’re breathtaking in their size and resilience, able to withstand violent storms, fierce winds, and pests that destroy other trees. But here’s what’s astonishing: their roots only go six to twelve feet deep. How can something so massive stand so tall with such shallow roots? The answer is found underground. Redwood roots spread wide—sometimes 100 feet out—and intertwine with the roots of neighboring redwoods. Their strength isn’t in standing alone. Their strength is in being connected.
That’s exactly how God designed us as His people. You and I were never meant to face the storms of life alone. Scripture says, “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish” (Psalm 92:13). In other words, when we stay rooted in God’s presence and connected to His people, we’re able to stand strong. When your faith is joined with mine, and mine is joined with yours, we create a spiritual support system that cannot be shaken.
Standing in the Storm
There were days during this legal battle when the storm felt overwhelming—when the odds looked stacked against us and discouragement whispered that it was hopeless. But here’s the difference: I wasn’t standing alone. Just like those redwoods, my roots were intertwined with the prayers and faith of others. My church family, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ surrounded me with encouragement and intercession. There were moments I might have fallen, but I stood tall because I wasn’t leaning on my strength alone. I was being held up by a network of faith stronger than any storm.
Why Community Matters
Maybe you’re facing your own battle today—whether it’s a diagnosis, financial strain, or heartbreak in a relationship. The enemy’s strategy is often the same: to isolate you. He wants you to believe no one cares, no one understands, and no one is standing with you. But that’s a lie.
When you’re planted in God’s house and connected to a community of believers, you’re never truly alone. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us: “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another.” God calls us to worship together, pray together, and walk through life together because He knows we are stronger in unity.
Think about the times you’ve been lifted by someone else’s words, prayers, or presence. That’s not accidental—that’s God’s design. Just as redwoods rely on one another’s roots, your spiritual health and stability are strengthened by being intertwined with others.
From Surviving to Flourishing
Here’s the beautiful thing: being planted doesn’t just keep you standing—it causes you to flourish. Psalm 92:13 doesn’t say you’ll merely survive the storm. It says you’ll flourish in the courts of our God. Flourishing means thriving, bearing fruit, and experiencing life abundantly even in hard seasons.
That’s what I’ve been believing for through this legal process—not just to get through it, but to come out stronger, with a testimony of God’s faithfulness. The prayers of others gave me courage when I wanted to give up. Their faith reminded me that God is still in control when circumstances said otherwise. Their encouragement lifted my eyes above the storm to the One who calms the wind and waves.
And that’s what God wants for you too. You don’t just have to grit your teeth and push through. When you’re connected to His house and His people, you can flourish in the middle of the storm.
How to Stay Planted
So, how do we stay rooted like the redwoods?
- Stay connected to God’s house. Don’t drift from church or isolate when life gets hard. Storms are exactly when you need to be planted.
- Let your roots intertwine with others. Be vulnerable. Share your struggles. Allow others to pray with you and for you.
- Strengthen someone else. Just as your roots need others, someone else needs yours. Your encouragement might be the very thing that keeps them standing.
- Trust the process. Flourishing doesn’t happen overnight, but when you stay planted, growth is inevitable.
My Gratitude Today
Looking back, I can honestly say I’ve never been more grateful for the community of faith around me. Every prayer texted, every word spoken, every person who stood with me—it was like another root holding me steady. Alone, I might have fallen. But together, I’ve flourished.
If you’ve ever doubted the power of connection, let me encourage you today: get planted. Let your roots intertwine. Build relationships in God’s house that will hold you steady. Because storms will come, but together we are unshakable.
A Word of Encouragement for You
Friend, maybe you’re walking through your own battle right now. It might not be a legal fight like mine—it may be a health struggle, a financial burden, a broken relationship, or a dream that feels delayed. The enemy wants you to believe you’re isolated and powerless. But that’s not the truth.
You are not alone. There are people who want to link arms with you, pray for you, and stand beside you until the storm passes. And more importantly, there is a God who planted you in His house so you could flourish—not just survive.
When you feel weak, remember: your roots don’t have to hold all the weight. When you feel like giving up, lean into the prayers and encouragement of others. And when you wonder if you’ll ever make it through, lift your eyes and remember that Jesus Himself is your anchor.
Together, we are stronger. Together, we are victorious. And together, we will flourish.
A Prayer for Today:
Father, thank You for the strength and support system I have when I’m connected to others. Thank You that I can be planted in Your house and that my faith can be joined to others’ faith. Lord, I’m so grateful for how You carried me through this legal battle and for the community of faith surrounding me, holding me up in prayer, and giving me strength. Help me to remain planted, rooted, and flourishing in every season. And Lord, for everyone reading this today, whatever battle they’re facing, remind them they are not alone. Surround them with Your presence and with people of faith who will help them stand tall. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
