Life doesn’t always follow the order we expect. We assume certain things will happen in a specific sequence: success follows preparation, blessings follow obedience, joy follows healing. But what happens when God decides to reverse the order?
That’s exactly what I’ve been reflecting on lately. I heard a powerful message that stirred my spirit—one that reminded me that God doesn’t need to follow human logic or timelines to accomplish His purpose. In fact, many of the miracles in Scripture happened when God flipped the script, rearranged the order, and defied expectations. And maybe that’s what He wants to do in your life too.
A New Way Forward
We often wait to feel strong before we take the step of faith. We want to be qualified before we apply. We want to feel peace before we forgive. But God doesn’t always wait for us to be ready in our own eyes—He just calls us to trust.
Sometimes healing comes after obedience. Provision shows up after we step out. Peace floods in after we praise Him in the middle of the storm. God’s ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8–9), and He loves to show His glory in ways that remind us He is in control, not our circumstances.
Biblical Examples of Reversed Order
Think about Joshua and the walls of Jericho. The Israelites didn’t tear the walls down first and then shout in victory. They shouted before the walls fell (Joshua 6:20). God reversed the order to show that faith leads to victory—not the other way around.
Or consider the ten lepers in Luke 17:14. Jesus told them to go show themselves to the priest, even though they hadn’t been healed yet. As they went, they were healed. Obedience came before the miracle.
One of my favorite stories is from John 11, when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Martha told Jesus, “If you had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.” She expected healing before death. But Jesus had something greater in mind—resurrection after death. God reversed the order and brought glory through what looked like a loss.
Let Go of the Linear Mindset
We get so caught up in thinking, “First this must happen, then that will come.” But God says, “I’ll bless you before you’re qualified. I’ll promote you before the training is complete. I’ll open the door before you feel ready.”
He reversed the order for David too. David was anointed king before he had any throne, army, or royal experience (1 Samuel 16:13). It took years for the fulfillment, but the promise came first—because God was developing David while He was preparing the position.
Faith Leads, Feelings Follow
Maybe you’re in a season where nothing makes sense. You’ve been waiting for things to line up—waiting to feel joy, to see results, to get clarity. Can I encourage you? Don’t wait to feel it—walk in it.
Praise before you see the victory. Forgive before the apology. Give before you feel like you have enough. Speak life before you see change. Sometimes God is just waiting for you to flip the switch of faith so He can reverse the order and move in ways beyond your imagination.
God’s Order Always Leads to His Glory
When God reverses the order, it’s never random. It’s purposeful. He’s not trying to confuse you—He’s trying to use you. To stretch your faith. To deepen your trust. To remind you that the One who holds your future isn’t limited by time, logic, or protocol.
Maybe you’re like me—believing for something that doesn’t seem to be happening in the “right” order. Take heart. When it’s God’s order, it’s the right order.
He may not be early, but He is never late. He’s not bound by human systems, and He doesn’t require all the steps to make sense before He blesses you. God delights in doing the unexpected in unexpected ways.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your ways are higher than mine. Thank You that You are not limited by time, logic, or order. Help me to trust You even when things don’t make sense. Give me the faith to obey before I see the outcome, to praise before the breakthrough, and to follow You even when the path looks uncertain. I believe You are working behind the scenes, reversing the order, and preparing something greater than I can imagine. Strengthen my heart, increase my faith, and help me rest in the knowledge that Your timing and ways are always perfect. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
