This morning started like any other—shoes laced, Noxgear safety vest clipped, headlamp secured. The darkness still blanketed the earth, and I was ready to begin my usual early walk with the dogs. There’s something about the quiet hours before the world wakes up that feels sacred. It’s in these moments that I often hear from God the clearest. But today, I didn’t expect just how tangible His message would be.
As we began our walk, my headlamp flickered. I brushed it off at first, but then my safety vest followed with its own low battery warning. Great. In the middle of this dimly lit path, my sources of safety and vision were both threatening to quit on me. I stopped for a moment, feeling the weight of the uncertainty ahead—should I turn around? Push through? Was this a sign to stop?
That’s when I saw it.
Right there on the fence point, slightly illuminated by the flicker of my headlamp, was a decorative rock. On it, in bold, simple letters, were three powerful words: Don’t Give Up.
I paused. Stunned. Humbled. Encouraged.
It was as if God Himself placed that rock in my path to remind me that I wasn’t walking alone. That message was more than a cute phrase—it was divine intervention. He knew exactly where I’d be, exactly when my strength would falter, and exactly what I would need to keep going.
As I stood there, soaking in that moment, I looked up—and there it was: the full moon hanging brilliantly in the sky. A soft glow bathed the landscape in silver. Birds began to rustle in the trees, stretching their wings as the first hints of sunlight painted the horizon.

The Creator of the universe choreographed this perfect scene, all to whisper, “I see you. Keep going.”
That rock was more than a decorative item; it was a sacred reminder. And honestly, I needed it. We all have moments when the batteries of our lives—our joy, our strength, our motivation—start to flicker. Maybe for you it’s the exhaustion of caregiving, the weight of grief, the stress of bills, or the ache of feeling unseen. But God, in His infinite love, knows how to get a message to us—even if He has to write it on a rock.
God often speaks through nature. Psalm 19:1 reminds us, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” This morning, the skies were singing. The moon, the sun, the birds—they were all declaring that our God is present, powerful, and personal.
In Luke 19:40, Jesus declares, “If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” This powerful statement reminds us that all of creation exists to glorify God—even the seemingly lifeless rocks beneath our feet. When humanity remains silent or blind to the presence and majesty of God, creation itself rises up in testimony. In the rustling trees, flowing rivers, and even a simple stone bearing a message, we see how the earth itself is alive with praise. And if the rocks are ready to cry out, how much more should we, who are made in His image, lift our voices in worship and gratitude?
If you’re in a place today where your light feels dim and your strength is low, let me share the same message God gave me:
Don’t Give Up.
Not when you’re tired.
Not when you feel alone.
Not when the way is unclear.
Not when it hurts.
God is with you.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God doesn’t always shout from mountaintops. Sometimes, He whispers through moonlight. Sometimes, He paints encouragement across the wings of birds. And sometimes, He leaves a rock with a message that hits you right where you are.
I picked up that rock and placed it in my pocket—a physical token of a spiritual truth. I carried it with me the rest of the way, and it helped me finish strong. God’s Word says in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” That’s not just a verse—it’s a promise.
So, here’s my encouragement to you: Keep showing up. Keep believing. Keep trusting that the God who placed the stars in the sky and sends birds soaring each morning is the same God who is walking beside you, cheering you on.
He sees your faithfulness. He knows your struggle. And He’s already placed encouragement along your path.
You just have to keep walking.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who meets us in the smallest and most personal ways. Thank You for reminding me today not to give up. Even when I feel weak or unsure, You show up to strengthen and guide me. Help me to keep walking, even when my batteries feel low, trusting that You are with me every step. Open my eyes to see Your beauty and hear Your whispers through nature, people, and even unexpected signs like a rock on the path. I choose to trust You, lean into You, and never give up. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
