Life-Giving Words of Hope & Encouragement

Has God ever asked you to do something that seemed completely impossible? Something so unexpected that if you obeyed, people might call you crazy? If so, you’re in good company. Throughout Scripture, God has called His people to step out in faith and trust Him beyond their understanding. One of the greatest examples of this is Noah—a man asked to build an enormous ark when the world had never even seen rain.

Noah’s Unbelievable Assignment

In Genesis 6, God looked upon the earth and saw the wickedness of mankind. Violence, corruption, and sin filled every heart except one—Noah’s. The Bible describes Noah as “a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God” (Genesis 6:9). Because of this, God chose Noah to carry out a divine plan that would preserve humanity and the animal kingdom.

God told Noah to build an ark—a massive wooden vessel large enough to hold his family and a pair of every kind of animal. This wasn’t just a weekend project; it took Noah about 120 years to complete. Imagine the ridicule and doubt he must have faced! Up to that point, it had never rained. The earth was watered from underground springs (Genesis 2:5-6). People had never seen water fall from the sky, let alone a flood capable of destroying the earth.

Noah’s obedience teaches us a crucial lesson: faith isn’t about understanding; it’s about trusting. Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith, Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.” He acted on God’s word, even though what God had spoken had never happened before.

Maybe you feel like God is asking you to do something that doesn’t make sense. Maybe He’s calling you to step into a new career, launch a ministry, restore a broken relationship, or take a leap of faith financially. You may be thinking, But God, I don’t have the resources! I don’t have the experience! This has never been done before!

If that’s you, remember Noah. He had no blueprint, no ark-building guide, and no past experience. Yet, his faith in God was greater than his fear of the unknown.

The Test of Obedience

When God calls us to do the unexpected, it often comes with opposition. People will doubt, mock, and question our decisions. Noah likely endured decades of ridicule. His neighbors must have thought he had lost his mind, building a giant boat in the middle of dry land.

But Noah didn’t let their voices override God’s voice. He stayed obedient to the task God had given him. And just as God had promised, the rain came. The floodwaters rose, and only those inside the ark were saved.

Obedience always leads to God’s favor, protection, and provision. If Noah had hesitated, doubted, or given up, the outcome would have been catastrophic. But his faith saved him and his family.

What Is God Asking You to Do?

Right now, is God asking you to take a step of faith into something that seems impossible? Is He calling you to trust Him in a new way? Maybe it’s forgiving someone who hurt you, stepping into a leadership role, or starting a project that seems beyond your ability.

Like Noah, you may not see any visible signs of what God has promised. The rain may not have started falling yet. But if He has spoken, it will come to pass. Your only job is to obey, even when it doesn’t make sense.

God never calls us to something without equipping us for it. He provides the strength, resources, and wisdom we need to accomplish His will. The question is: Will we trust Him?

A Call to Radical Faith

God specializes in calling people to the unexpected. He called Abraham to leave his homeland without knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). He called Moses to lead a nation with nothing but a staff in his hand (Exodus 4:2). He called Peter to step out of a boat onto water (Matthew 14:29).

And He is calling you to trust Him too.

Will you be like Noah and say yes to God? Will you build what He’s telling you to build, even if no one else understands? Will you prepare for the promise, even when there’s no sign of it yet?
