Jesus taught that to be great in the kingdom, we must serve others. Living a blessed life isn’t about occasional good deeds but adopting a lifestyle of serving. It’s about seeking ways to help others—assisting a friend, volunteering, or caring for a relative. True fulfillment comes not from living to get but from living to give.
Many people are unhappy because they focus solely on their dreams, goals, and problems. This mindset limits them. God created us to give, placing people in our paths so we can bless them. Each morning, ask, “God, show me my assignment today. Help me see who You want me to bless.” When you serve others, you are serving God. Jesus said, “If you give a cup of cold water to someone in need, you will surely be rewarded.” Every act of kindness—no matter how small—is seen by God and will be rewarded.
Don’t serve for recognition or applause. People may not thank or credit you, but remember, you’re serving God, not them. He sees your sacrifices—the early mornings, the late nights, the unacknowledged efforts—and promises to reward you. As Jesus said, “What you do in secret, God will reward in the open.”
When you focus on helping others, you’ll find true joy. You were created to make someone’s life better. Someone needs your smile, encouragement, and love. Serving others not only blesses them but also replenishes and re-energizes you.
In John 4, Jesus met a woman at a well in Samaria. Tired and hungry, He sent His disciples to buy food. Yet after ministering to the woman, Jesus felt refreshed. When the disciples returned, He told them, “My food comes from doing the will of Him who sent Me.” His strength and satisfaction came from serving others.
This principle applies to us. You might expect to feel drained after volunteering, helping a friend, or running errands for a neighbor. Yet, serving often leaves you refreshed, uplifted, and joyful. Why? Because doing God’s will feeds your soul.
Many people dedicate time to serving in their community or church—teaching children, singing on the worship team, or mentoring others. While these acts require effort, they also bring renewal and strength. Serving isn’t something we do occasionally; it should be a way of life. Every day, look for opportunities to lift others up. Simple acts, like kind words, can brighten someone’s day. The Bible says, “Kind words work wonders.”
This attitude should start at home. Husbands, serve your wives. Offer to help with errands, chores, or the kids. Small gestures can make a big difference. Marriage isn’t a dictatorship; it’s a partnership. Likewise, wives can serve their husbands with love and encouragement. Following Jesus’ example of humility and service—like washing His disciples’ feet—strengthens relationships and brings blessings.
Jesus said, “When you do it to the least of these, you’re doing it unto Me.” God notices every act of compassion, even those unseen by others. When people praise you, that’s part of your reward. But when no one notices, God stores up greater rewards in heaven. Those who faithfully serve behind the scenes—volunteering without recognition, giving sacrificially—will receive the greatest rewards.
If you feel tired, discouraged, or low on joy, consider whether you’re focusing too much on yourself. Serving others lifts your spirits and brings fulfillment. Visit a senior center, encourage a struggling friend, or coach a youth team. These simple acts can refresh you and bring joy.
You don’t need to do grand gestures to serve. A kind word, a compliment, or a helping hand can make a huge difference. Start by serving those closest to you—your family and friends. Extend that same compassion to strangers and acquaintances. Look for ways to brighten someone’s day, whether through encouragement, prayer, or practical help.
Jesus promised that we will find true greatness when we live to serve others. He said, “The greatest among you will be your servant.” Serving is not just about helping others; it’s about transforming your life. When you serve, you step into God’s will, inviting His favor, healing, and breakthroughs into your life.
Develop a lifestyle of serving and watch how God blesses you in return. You’ll discover greater joy, energy, and peace. God’s rewards are not just in heaven; He blesses you here on earth, too. As you serve others, you’re coming into favor, promotion, and breakthroughs. Remember, when you bless others, you’re also blessing yourself. Start looking for opportunities to serve. Make it your mission to lift others and be a blessing everywhere you go. I hope this speaks to you, and I pray you have a blessed day!
