Revelation 3:7 says, “God opens doors that no man can shut, and shuts doors that no man can open.” God is your doorkeeper, and obstacles cannot hinder your purpose. I’ve been engaged in a legal battle for over a year, and you may feel as though you are behind closed doors in areas such as health, career, or relationships. But stay encouraged; closed doors are only temporary. Neither the enemy nor fear controls your opportunities—ultimately, it is the Most High God who determines what opens and closes.
In John 20, after Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, His disciples gathered in a locked room, fearful of the leaders who had harmed Him. They checked the door to ensure it was secure. Suddenly, Jesus appeared despite the locked door, illustrating that no closed door can hinder God’s plans.
People may have closed the door and tried to keep you from promotion. Your upbringing may have shut the door; you feel at a disadvantage. Forces of darkness may have locked the door, trying to keep you from your healing, your freedom. It’s been that way a long time; it seems like the door is not only closed but also locked and dead-bolted. The good news is that God doesn’t have to open the door; He can come through it. He’s not limited by what’s limiting us. We’re natural; He’s supernatural.
The medical report might indicate that your healing is impossible, making it seem like the door is permanently shut. Prepare yourself because God is about to make an entrance. Expect unusual, extraordinary, supernatural healing. Alternatively, it might feel like the door to your dreams—getting into college, finding the right partner, or having a child—is closed. Every situation might suggest, “It’s too late. That door is locked and will never open.” Just smile and declare, “It doesn’t have to open. Father, thank you for coming through the door. Thank you for creating a pathway where I see none. Thank you that closed doors cannot prevent what you have in store for me.”
You may have doors that have been closed for a long time, but this is a new day; God is about to show up and out in your life. One good break, one touch of His favor, one contract, one healing can catapult you ahead. And what I love is: even when we lock the door, like the disciples, even when we let fear, intimidation, and insecurity cause us to shrink back, God says: “That’s no problem for me; fear can’t keep me out, depression can’t stop what I have for you, and limited thinking can’t hold me back.” God overrides every negative force. You may have locked the door yourself, but at some point, God will come through the door; He won’t let you miss your destiny.
And don’t be surprised if doors open that you tried to keep locked. God sees potential in you; He sees your seeds of greatness that you may not be able to see in yourself. He will present you with opportunities that seem way over your head. Don’t shrink back; you are well able. He’s going to bring divine connections across your path.
You may think you’re too old to accomplish your dreams. Can I tell you? It’s still on the way. You may think it’s too late to start your business—it’s still on the way. You think you’ll never live in that nice house; it didn’t work out last time you tried—it’s still on the way. You don’t think you’ll ever get well. You’ve learned to live with the sickness; the good news is that healing is headed your way. You may have closed the door, but God doesn’t hold that against you. He’s about to come through that door and do something better than you ever imagined.
Reflecting on the past, I realized that what I saw as setbacks were actually preparing me for greater opportunities than I had ever imagined. I’m convinced that God is about to open new doors for you, especially in areas where you feel confined and believe you’ve reached your limits.
In Acts 12, King Herod arrested Peter and chained him between two guards so he wouldn’t escape. The following day, Peter was to be tried. Meanwhile, believers gathered at Mary’s house, praying all night, aware that this dire situation could thwart his mission. Herod assigned 16 additional soldiers to guard Peter. But while Peter slept, an angel awakened him, saying, “Peter, get dressed; we’re leaving.” Herod underestimated God’s power to intervene.
Scripture says God is a very present help in times of trouble. When you’re in trouble, God is right there with you. He comes into the prison, the hospital, and the times of loss. Peter thought he was dreaming; he stood up, and the chains fell off his wrist. The angel had no key or anything to cut them; they supernaturally came off. None of the other guards heard them. Eighteen soldiers were assigned to watch, and nobody noticed. God knows how to make you invisible to the enemy. He won’t let you get into a problem that he can’t get you out of.
Peter followed the angel through the prison, passing other guards. They finally came to the big iron gates that led out to the streets. Scripture says, “The gates opened of their own accord,” just like the angel had a remote control. Peter went to Mary’s house, where everyone was praying. He knocked on the door. A young girl answered. When she saw Peter, she was so amazed that instead of opening the door, she ran back to tell everyone. Verse 15 says, “They said to her, ‘You’re out of your mind.” When Herod learned that Peter had escaped, he had all eighteen guards put to death.
The closed door should have been Peter’s end. That illness should have stopped you, but somehow, the door opened, and you recovered. Maybe you’ve struggled with addiction and felt destined to fail, but that door will soon open; you’ll discover a strength greater than your own. You and God are a majority, and what He has destined for your life will override anyone or anything trying to stop you.
People can’t lock you out of your purpose; God opens and closes doors. Trusting in God’s timing means we shouldn’t be impatient because the door hasn’t opened yet. God knows what He’s doing; He won’t let you miss your destiny. He sees every injustice and every time you’re not treated right when someone tries to hold you down. Stay in peace; your time is coming.
In the book of 1st Samuel, a young lady named Hannah was very discouraged because she couldn’t have a baby. Her husband married two wives; this other wife had child after child. Hannah couldn’t understand it, but I Samuel 1:6 says: “The Lord closed Hannah’s womb.” Sometimes, we’re frustrated over a door that God has closed. We may not like it; it doesn’t make sense, but when you understand that God is your doorkeeper, that He opens and closes doors—not people, not circumstances—then you can live at rest, knowing that at the right time, God will open the right doors.
Years passed, and Hannah remained barren and discouraged. One day, she went to the temple and prayed, “God, if you give me a baby, I’ll dedicate him to you in the temple.” The priest overheard and said, “Hannah, go home; God has granted your request.” A year later, Hannah gave birth to Samuel. Just because a door is shut doesn’t make it permanent. You may not yet see what you hope for, but that doesn’t mean God won’t deliver. God shuts doors no person can open and opens those no one can shut. If you stay in faith like Hannah, you’ll see that closed door suddenly open. You don’t have to create or manipulate circumstances. The truth is you can’t open doors God has closed. Your part: pray, believe, and trust God as your doorkeeper.
Are you feeling frustrated by what isn’t working out for you? Are you discouraged by a dream that hasn’t yet materialized? Are you worn down like me after fighting a lengthy battle? If Hannah were here today, she would remind us, “Be patient; that closed door isn’t final.” Peter would reassure you, “You don’t need to figure everything out; it will open in its own time.” The disciples would encourage you, “It may seem locked, but don’t worry; God can open the door supernaturally.”
Doors may have been shut for a long time, making it seem like they will never open. But get ready! The doorkeeper is about to open doors that no one can close. The right individuals are coming into your life, and obstacles that appear permanent will soon change unexpectedly, bringing breakthroughs, promotions, healing, and the fullness of your purpose. I hope this speaks to you, and I pray you have a blessed day!
